Narrative:
Upon departing atlanta, I was the PNF, and the gear would not retract. We called company, and were told to bring the airplane back to the gate. After talking to ATC, we were given radar vectors back to runway 8L. At that time, not knowing what the mechanical outcome would be, I took the controls and was the PF. ATC sent us to the tower which in turn gave us radar vectors to the final, but upon starting our turn, my rate of turn was shallow enough that I drifted to a parallel runway (runway 9L) for about 3 seconds before the tower politely asked us to realign ourselves to runway 8L. We apologized to them, explaining that we had a short time to run all our checklists, and this had created that mishap. No traffic was departing from runway 9L, runway 9L is a departing runway only. Next time we will ask for a longer final to finish our business before accepting a visual.

Title: EMB120 LNDG GEAR DOES NOT RETRACT AFTER TKOF RESULTING IN FLC RETURN LAND WITH ATC VECTOR ASSISTANCE.
Narrative: UPON DEPARTING ATLANTA, I WAS THE PNF, AND THE GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT. WE CALLED COMPANY, AND WERE TOLD TO BRING THE AIRPLANE BACK TO THE GATE. AFTER TALKING TO ATC, WE WERE GIVEN RADAR VECTORS BACK TO RWY 8L. AT THAT TIME, NOT KNOWING WHAT THE MECHANICAL OUTCOME WOULD BE, I TOOK THE CTLS AND WAS THE PF. ATC SENT US TO THE TWR WHICH IN TURN GAVE US RADAR VECTORS TO THE FINAL, BUT UPON STARTING OUR TURN, MY RATE OF TURN WAS SHALLOW ENOUGH THAT I DRIFTED TO A PARALLEL RWY (RWY 9L) FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS BEFORE THE TWR POLITELY ASKED US TO REALIGN OURSELVES TO RWY 8L. WE APOLOGIZED TO THEM, EXPLAINING THAT WE HAD A SHORT TIME TO RUN ALL OUR CHKLISTS, AND THIS HAD CREATED THAT MISHAP. NO TFC WAS DEPARTING FROM RWY 9L, RWY 9L IS A DEPARTING RWY ONLY. NEXT TIME WE WILL ASK FOR A LONGER FINAL TO FINISH OUR BUSINESS BEFORE ACCEPTING A VISUAL.
