Narrative:
Sea 338 degree radial 6 DME. On departure on the summa 5 departure at 4000 ft, we misread our DME as 8 DME when we were actually at 6 DME. We started our turn. ATC immediately saw the turn and gave us a short 30 second vector to rejoin the SID. TCASII showed no conflicting aircraft. The rest of the departure was uneventful.
