Narrative:

Center advised us that our planned arrival (lander 3) into denver was changed to the sayge 3 and to cross sayge at 14000 ft. The FMS was programmed for the new arrival including the crossing restr, and the autoplt was configured properly for the VNAV to cross sayge at 14000 ft. I was in the process of obtaining ATIS at den when ATC asked if we could make the crossing altitude. It was at that time that I noticed the aircraft had proceeded beyond the top of descent point without starting down. I advised ATC we were descending at this time. We reached 14000 ft, 3 mi past sayge. It was the crew's error to identify the aircraft had past the top of descent point.

Narrative: CTR ADVISED US THAT OUR PLANNED ARR (LANDER 3) INTO DENVER WAS CHANGED TO THE SAYGE 3 AND TO CROSS SAYGE AT 14000 FT. THE FMS WAS PROGRAMMED FOR THE NEW ARR INCLUDING THE XING RESTR, AND THE AUTOPLT WAS CONFIGURED PROPERLY FOR THE VNAV TO CROSS SAYGE AT 14000 FT. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING ATIS AT DEN WHEN ATC ASKED IF WE COULD MAKE THE XING ALT. IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT I NOTICED THE ACFT HAD PROCEEDED BEYOND THE TOP OF DSCNT POINT WITHOUT STARTING DOWN. I ADVISED ATC WE WERE DSNDING AT THIS TIME. WE REACHED 14000 FT, 3 MI PAST SAYGE. IT WAS THE CREW'S ERROR TO IDENT THE ACFT HAD PAST THE TOP OF DSCNT POINT.
