Narrative:
Taxiing out we received a runway and departure change. Under a high workload we proceeded to runway 23. When we got down to the end of the runway my choices were the displaced threshold or full length. I decided to go with full length. When tower cleared us on to the runway for takeoff they told us they were filing a report because we did not hold short in the proper place. They also informed us that it was a common occurrence because it is not clearly marked and they were filing the report for statistical data purposes. Several thoughts come to my mind -- if it is not clearly marked why not get it marked -- if this has been a problem for some time why is it not on our company tailored page to give us a heads up -- also is it a good time to be informed of something like this on the takeoff roll. Keeping my mind on the takeoff was very difficult. Supplemental information from acn 504110 given instructions by yyz ground to taxi to runway 33 making for a short taxi. I had to pull up a new weights and ATIS for runway 23 and started this process while the captain. Taxied. Once receiving the new data, I briefed the captain on this then started to finish the checklist while looking at the new SID. This was my leg to fly. As we taxied to within 100 yds or so of the hold short area captain nor I could find any hold short line or sign of any kind. Then yyz tower calls and says that we have taxied past the hold short and to continue to taxi into position on runway 23. Tower then tells us that this is an ongoing problem because of poor marking and that they were going to file a report for statistical data to try and get something done to the markings. Tower clears us for takeoff and nothing else said.

Title: MD80 CREW WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE ANY HOLD SHORT MARKINGS OR SIGNS FOR RWY 23 ON TXWY H AND Q AT CYYZ.

KEEPING MY MIND ON THE TKOF WAS VERY DIFFICULT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 504110 GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS BY YYZ GROUND TO TAXI TO RWY 33 MAKING FOR A SHORT TAXI. I HAD TO PULL UP A NEW WEIGHTS AND ATIS FOR RWY 23 AND STARTED THIS PROCESS WHILE THE CAPT. TAXIED. ONCE RECEIVING THE NEW DATA, I BRIEFED THE CAPT ON THIS THEN STARTED TO FINISH THE CHECKLIST WHILE LOOKING AT THE NEW SID. THIS WAS MY LEG TO FLY. AS WE TAXIED TO WITHIN 100 YDS OR SO OF THE HOLD SHORT AREA CAPT NOR I COULD FIND ANY HOLD SHORT LINE OR SIGN OF ANY KIND. THEN YYZ TOWER CALLS AND SAYS THAT WE HAVE TAXIED PAST THE HOLD SHORT AND TO CONTINUE TO TAXI INTO POSITION ON RWY 23. TOWER THEN TELLS US THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM BECAUSE OF POOR MARKING AND THAT THEY WERE GOING TO FILE A REPORT FOR STATISTICAL DATA TO TRY AND GET SOMETHING DONE TO THE MARKINGS. TWR CLEARS US FOR TKOF AND NOTHING ELSE SAID.
