Narrative:

On the climb out of bwi, we heard and read back a climb clearance to 15000 ft. As we passed through 11000 ft, departure called and questioned our altitude saying we had been cleared to 10000 ft. Traffic was called at 2 O'clock and at 5 mi. Turns were issued to both aircraft, and we descended to 10000 ft. After separation was achieved, course was resumed. No TCASII alerts during event. If we misheard the clearance, ATC misheard or did not listen to the readback and therefore, we assumed our understanding of the clearance was correct. We all need to listen carefully to what is said to insure understanding.
