Narrative:
On apr/xa/01, I had arrived at XA05 and at that point mr Y had asked me for help with a direct data entry -- the logsheet he provided me on aircraft. Mr Y then indicated that he replaced a flight data recorder earlier that morning. I made an attempt to properly direct data entry the log page, but mistakenly entered 'no' if parts were changed. Immediately seeing my mistake, I contacted maintenance control and talked to mr Z and advised him that I did not have the capabilities to reopen the item and if he could do this. Mr Z said that he would take care of it. This was the last I had heard of it until today, after my return to work from my days off. At no time did mr Y ask me for a part number for a flight data recorder for this airplane, or ask for any assistance other than entering the logsheet into computer. I also feel that my only fault was trying to assist in working with the computer entry.

Title: A B737-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WHEN MAINT WORK DATA WAS INCORRECTLY ENTERED IN THE MAINT COMPUTER.
Narrative: ON APR/XA/01, I HAD ARRIVED AT XA05 AND AT THAT POINT MR Y HAD ASKED ME FOR HELP WITH A DIRECT DATA ENTRY -- THE LOGSHEET HE PROVIDED ME ON ACFT. MR Y THEN INDICATED THAT HE REPLACED A FLT DATA RECORDER EARLIER THAT MORNING. I MADE AN ATTEMPT TO PROPERLY DIRECT DATA ENTRY THE LOG PAGE, BUT MISTAKENLY ENTERED 'NO' IF PARTS WERE CHANGED. IMMEDIATELY SEEING MY MISTAKE, I CONTACTED MAINT CTL AND TALKED TO MR Z AND ADVISED HIM THAT I DID NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITIES TO REOPEN THE ITEM AND IF HE COULD DO THIS. MR Z SAID THAT HE WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. THIS WAS THE LAST I HAD HEARD OF IT UNTIL TODAY, AFTER MY RETURN TO WORK FROM MY DAYS OFF. AT NO TIME DID MR Y ASK ME FOR A PART NUMBER FOR A FLT DATA RECORDER FOR THIS AIRPLANE, OR ASK FOR ANY ASSISTANCE OTHER THAN ENTERING THE LOGSHEET INTO COMPUTER. I ALSO FEEL THAT MY ONLY FAULT WAS TRYING TO ASSIST IN WORKING WITH THE COMPUTER ENTRY.
