Narrative:
During approach to landing, received GPWS warning while on a decelerating approach. GPWS advised terrain while on GS at approximately 2000-1500 ft AGL and 200 KTS (decelerating). Due to the warning, initiated go around. Normal go around during re-entry into visual pattern. ATC vectors put us closer than desired. Landed runway 23R without incident using normal maneuvers and procedures. Supplemental information from acn 507914: during a visual approach, a go around was initiated for an aural warning in the cockpit. ATC cleared us immediately for a visual and cleared to land. We were on 3 mi base leg for runway 23R to follow a seneca. We quickly configured the airplane by 500 ft AGL and landed. Tower must have switched the seneca to the left side for runway 23L. Tower had us call them to see if it was their fault. We do believe the vectors were a little too close for comfort.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B190 CREW HAD A GPWS TERRAIN WARNING ON APCH AT CLE.
Narrative: DURING APCH TO LNDG, RECEIVED GPWS WARNING WHILE ON A DECELERATING APCH. GPWS ADVISED TERRAIN WHILE ON GS AT APPROX 2000-1500 FT AGL AND 200 KTS (DECELERATING). DUE TO THE WARNING, INITIATED GAR. NORMAL GAR DURING RE-ENTRY INTO VISUAL PATTERN. ATC VECTORS PUT US CLOSER THAN DESIRED. LANDED RWY 23R WITHOUT INCIDENT USING NORMAL MANEUVERS AND PROCS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 507914: DURING A VISUAL APCH, A GAR WAS INITIATED FOR AN AURAL WARNING IN THE COCKPIT. ATC CLRED US IMMEDIATELY FOR A VISUAL AND CLRED TO LAND. WE WERE ON 3 MI BASE LEG FOR RWY 23R TO FOLLOW A SENECA. WE QUICKLY CONFIGURED THE AIRPLANE BY 500 FT AGL AND LANDED. TWR MUST HAVE SWITCHED THE SENECA TO THE L SIDE FOR RWY 23L. TWR HAD US CALL THEM TO SEE IF IT WAS THEIR FAULT. WE DO BELIEVE THE VECTORS WERE A LITTLE TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT.
