Notified line maintenance controller. Controller stated maintenance manual reference is no good as of 2 days ago per engineering authority/authorized. Controller stated to use srm 55-10-1. No reference was found, only srm 55-10-01, but controller said that was no good. Foreman saw delay as lengthy and proceeded to sign off and release aircraft for service per maintenance manual 51-00-99. Manuals were not updated to reflect this change and an improper signoff occurred. Air carrier X aircraft abc flight xoo on apr/xa/01 was the aircraft involved.
