Narrative:

At cruise altitude, FL370, and approximately 65 NM from pit, master caution light illuminated with no warning message. After several mins we got an intermittent right oil strainer clog message. Over a period of approximately 5 mins, message was intermittent. Accomplished procedures in accordance with pom, which eventually required an engine shutdown. Declared an emergency and diverted to pit. Captain coordination with flight control, flight attendants and performed abnormal checklist. First officer coordinated with center (ATC) and flew aircraft. Uneventful landing in pit and taxi to gate.

Title: MD88 FLC WHILE IN CRUISE DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED TO LAND AFTER A CLOGGED OIL STRAINER FILTER MESSAGE CAME ON AND THE ENG SUBSEQUENTLY HAD TO BE SHUT DOWN.

Narrative: AT CRUISE ALT, FL370, AND APPROX 65 NM FROM PIT, MASTER CAUTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH NO WARNING MESSAGE. AFTER SEVERAL MINS WE GOT AN INTERMITTENT R OIL STRAINER CLOG MESSAGE. OVER A PERIOD OF APPROX 5 MINS, MESSAGE WAS INTERMITTENT. ACCOMPLISHED PROCS IN ACCORDANCE WITH POM, WHICH EVENTUALLY REQUIRED AN ENG SHUTDOWN. DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED TO PIT. CAPT COORD WITH FLT CTL, FLT ATTENDANTS AND PERFORMED ABNORMAL CHKLIST. FO COORDINATED WITH CTR (ATC) AND FLEW ACFT. UNEVENTFUL LNDG IN PIT AND TAXI TO GATE.
