Narrative:
During normal climb leaving FL230 for FL250, sudden loud bang followed by sustained loss of N1, N2, and EPR on right engine. Declared emergency and followed company emergency procedures. We diverted to iad and landed without incident. Deadheading captain was asked to assist in cabin with PA's and passenger reassurance. The crew cooperated extremely well and all available resources were used. Supplemental information from acn 508734: deadheading captain assisted in the cabin with PA's and passenger reassurance. The crew cooperated extremely well. All available resources were utilized. From onset to conclusion, this situation was handled professionally in a textbook example fashion.

Title: MD82 CREW HAD #2 ENG FAIL IN CLB IN ZDC CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: DURING NORMAL CLB LEAVING FL230 FOR FL250, SUDDEN LOUD BANG FOLLOWED BY SUSTAINED LOSS OF N1, N2, AND EPR ON R ENG. DECLARED EMER AND FOLLOWED COMPANY EMER PROCS.
