Narrative:
Taxiing to hold short of runway 22L on taxiway M, PF did not recognize hold short line for runway 22L until told by PNF. Aircraft stopped with nosewheel over or on hold short line. Aircraft was facing approach end of runway 22L, night VFR, and no aircraft on approach. As crew was about to ask tower if they could move we were cleared for takeoff. Takeoff accomplished without incident by first officer. Human factors: very difficult to see hold line approaching from taxiway M -- not usual route, particularly at night. Fatigue was a factor. Good situational awareness and CRM by first officer.
