Narrative:
Aircraft AB319, 118 on board, flaps HF, APU bleed on, toga power, 152600 pounds. Normal takeoff. At approximately 600 ft, flew into a flock of birds (10-12). The left engine ingested 1 or 2 birds. Encountered excessive vibration and noise. Declared an emergency. Landing was at 150000 pounds and uneventful. After shutting engines down and examining the engine, there were 4 fan blades bent (engine #1). No injuries were encountered. Comments: CRM worked superbly (pilots and flight attendants). San ground, tower, and approach control did an outstanding job. Emergency equipment was waiting upon landing. Outstanding job by all involved on ground.
