Narrative:
Aircraft was fueled to 24700 pounds. On climb out and cruise, center fuel quantity gauge increased to 11200 pounds. (On the ground, center quantity was 5700 pounds.) the center fuel quantity gauge was slow to show correct fuel level. Fueler disconnected at 24700 pounds as I verified this so we could push back. We caught the overfueling problem and held to burn down to our maximum landing weight.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR TWIN JET WAS IMPROPERLY REFUELED WHILE UNKNOWINGLY HAVING A MALFUNCTIONING CTR TANK FUEL GAUGE AT ANC, AK.
Narrative: ACFT WAS FUELED TO 24700 LBS. ON CLBOUT AND CRUISE, CTR FUEL QUANTITY GAUGE INCREASED TO 11200 LBS. (ON THE GND, CTR QUANTITY WAS 5700 LBS.) THE CTR FUEL QUANTITY GAUGE WAS SLOW TO SHOW CORRECT FUEL LEVEL. FUELER DISCONNECTED AT 24700 LBS AS I VERIFIED THIS SO WE COULD PUSH BACK. WE CAUGHT THE OVERFUELING PROB AND HELD TO BURN DOWN TO OUR MAX LNDG WT.
