Narrative:
Flight abcd from orf left the gate at XA30 local. We had an ATC clearance. We taxied out of gate onto our controled ramp and proceeded onto the controled taxiway leading to runway 5. Upon crossing runway 18-32, I (captain) cleared the area left and right, announced we were crossing runway 18-32 and confirmed we were cleared to cross runway 18-32. My first officer realized and stated that we forgot to call ground prior to taxi. I then realized same. My first officer immediately contacted ground announcing we were about to cross runway 18-32 and asked if it was ok -- we were taxiing to runway 5. The ground controller replied it was ok, that he had been watching us the whole time and that we were approved to taxi to runway 5 and cross runway 18-32. Upon crossing runway 18-32 I contacted ground again, apologized for the confusion, and asked if we had not caused any trouble. Ground stated we did not, that everything was ok and we were cleared to continue and contact tower when ready for departure.

Narrative: FLT ABCD FROM ORF LEFT THE GATE AT XA30 LOCAL. WE HAD AN ATC CLRNC. WE TAXIED OUT OF GATE ONTO OUR CTLED RAMP AND PROCEEDED ONTO THE CTLED TXWY LEADING TO RWY 5. UPON XING RWY 18-32, I (CAPT) CLRED THE AREA L AND R, ANNOUNCED WE WERE XING RWY 18-32 AND CONFIRMED WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 18-32. MY FO REALIZED AND STATED THAT WE FORGOT TO CALL GND PRIOR TO TAXI. I THEN REALIZED SAME. MY FO IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED GND ANNOUNCING WE WERE ABOUT TO CROSS RWY 18-32 AND ASKED IF IT WAS OK -- WE WERE TAXIING TO RWY 5. THE GND CTLR REPLIED IT WAS OK, THAT HE HAD BEEN WATCHING US THE WHOLE TIME AND THAT WE WERE APPROVED TO TAXI TO RWY 5 AND CROSS RWY 18-32. UPON XING RWY 18-32 I CONTACTED GND AGAIN, APOLOGIZED FOR THE CONFUSION, AND ASKED IF WE HAD NOT CAUSED ANY TROUBLE. GND STATED WE DID NOT, THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK AND WE WERE CLRED TO CONTINUE AND CONTACT TWR WHEN READY FOR DEP.
