Narrative:
Aircraft came in a freighter (6 pal). Technician did walkaround and reconfign of seats. Found forward l-hand entry door upper hinge cover bracket broken. Technician brought part into office to me (the lead). I had another technician with good experience go and inspect the door and area for any more damage. He reported none found -- aircraft ok for service. I called maintenance control, explained damage, and asked to defer maintenance for MEL 25-10B. Door trim and coverings. I took logbook out to aircraft, looked at the door area, and agreed that there was no more damage. Aircraft took off and could not pressurize. Returned to gate, found that part of the bracket missing was about 2 inches of the main seal seat where the hinge cutout is. All technicians involved just over looked that the bracket made part of the seal seat, we just thought it was for the rubber hinge cover (for appearance) to attach it to the aircraft.
