Narrative:
Due to choppy ride at FL310, we requested a descent. ZJX cleared us to descend to FL270. At FL295, ZJX called us and said he mistakenly gave us that descent 'confused us with another aircraft' and told us to 'maintain FL310,' then subsequently cleared us back down to FL280. No traffic separation problems existed -- just a communications mistake.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-200 CREW REQUESTED LOWER ALT TO GET OUT OF TURB. ZJX CTLR HAD AN ACFT MIX-UP AND CLRED THE ACFT TO DSND IN ERROR.
Narrative: DUE TO CHOPPY RIDE AT FL310, WE REQUESTED A DSCNT. ZJX CLRED US TO DSND TO FL270. AT FL295, ZJX CALLED US AND SAID HE MISTAKENLY GAVE US THAT DSCNT 'CONFUSED US WITH ANOTHER ACFT' AND TOLD US TO 'MAINTAIN FL310,' THEN SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED US BACK DOWN TO FL280. NO TFC SEPARATION PROBS EXISTED -- JUST A COMS MISTAKE.
