Narrative:
During approach to hnl, ATIS did not advertise lahso in effect. Hnl approach control did not offer nor ask for pilot concurrence for lahso lnding. Nonetheless, during lnding roll, tower decided to change the game plan, and asked us to hold short of runway 4L because he had an airplane lnding on 4L. We were lnding on 8L. Hnl tower apparently assumes all air carrier jets will exit 8L, approximately mid-field at taxiway 'Y' or 'H.' with 12000 + ft of runway, I planned and briefed to use most of it, using 'automatic-brakes '1', making a left turn at 'kilo'. During rollout, tower directed a left turn at 'Y.' we advised we would be able to exit at 'kilo' (due to our deceleration rate previously selected). Tower then insisted upon a lahso operation, holding short of runway 4L. Why would the tower ask for lahso during our lnding roll!! Why would he clear an airplane to lnd on an intersecting runway during our lnding without our previous agreement to participate in lahso? Yes, we could have advised tower we were 'unable' to hold short of 4L, but since our planned exit point was at the same place, he wouldn't have believed it. It was not a problem, it was just unplanned and not coordinated prior to my lnding.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B-777. ATCT LCL CTLR ATTEMPTED TO GIVE THE CREW A LAHSO HOLD SHORT RESTRICTION DURING THEIR LNDG ROLL OUT AT HNL.
Narrative: DURING APCH TO HNL, ATIS DID NOT ADVERTISE LAHSO IN EFFECT. HNL APCH CTL DID NOT OFFER NOR ASK FOR PLT CONCURRENCE FOR LAHSO LNDING. NONETHELESS, DURING LNDING ROLL, TWR DECIDED TO CHANGE THE GAME PLAN, AND ASKED US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4L BECAUSE HE HAD AN AIRPLANE LNDING ON 4L. WE WERE LNDING ON 8L. HNL TWR APPARENTLY ASSUMES ALL ACR JETS WILL EXIT 8L, APPROX MID-FIELD AT TXWY 'Y' OR 'H.' WITH 12000 + FT OF RWY, I PLANNED AND BRIEFED TO USE MOST OF IT, USING 'AUTO-BRAKES '1', MAKING A L TURN AT 'KILO'. DURING ROLLOUT, TWR DIRECTED A L TURN AT 'Y.' WE ADVISED WE WOULD BE ABLE TO EXIT AT 'KILO' (DUE TO OUR DECELERATION RATE PREVIOUSLY SELECTED). TWR THEN INSISTED UPON A LAHSO OP, HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4L. WHY WOULD THE TWR ASK FOR LAHSO DURING OUR LNDING ROLL!! WHY WOULD HE CLEAR AN AIRPLANE TO LND ON AN INTERSECTING RWY DURING OUR LNDING WITHOUT OUR PREVIOUS AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN LAHSO? YES, WE COULD HAVE ADVISED TWR WE WERE 'UNABLE' TO HOLD SHORT OF 4L, BUT SINCE OUR PLANNED EXIT POINT WAS AT THE SAME PLACE, HE WOULDN'T HAVE BELIEVED IT. IT WAS NOT A PROB, IT WAS JUST UNPLANNED AND NOT COORDINATED PRIOR TO MY LNDING.
