Narrative:

Workload caused it to be late in morning before addressing the 'on light inoperative on cockpit fuel control panel.' plane departing within hour. Removed power from panel and removed panel. Checked part number. Phoned avionics shop for part number of panel. Crew chief phoned back with part number the same as I had. I did not personally verify effectivity and part number. I ordered part and installed according to maintenance manual 20-41-01 (sp). When stores did check on part utilizing manufacturer's part number it was verified that part number xyz was returned to them. The effectivity for aircraft xyz calls for part number XXXZ in this position.
