Narrative:

Gate agent in ZZZ saw small dent behind main cabin door. Called contract maintenance. Contract maintenance inspected dent and called maintenance in zza. Maintenance told contract maintenance that if we had not written it up in aircraft maintenance logbook to fly aircraft back to zza. In zza, maintenance said dent was out of limits and I flew an unairworthy aircraft. Contract maintenance didn't think dent was out of limits. Maintenance should have described limits to contract maintenance.
