Narrative:
ATC had cleared us to 'cross krena at 9000 ft.' I got distraction by other issues and didn't start the descent until about 4 mi prior to krena. We advised ATC we might be late arriving at 9000 ft. Given our ground speed, I should not have delayed our discretionary descent.

Title: AN EMB-145 CAPT RPTED MISSING HIS ASSIGNED XING ALT IN C90 AIRSPACE.
Narrative: ATC HAD CLRED US TO 'CROSS KRENA AT 9000 FT.' I GOT DISTR BY OTHER ISSUES AND DIDN'T START THE DSCNT UNTIL ABOUT 4 MI PRIOR TO KRENA. WE ADVISED ATC WE MIGHT BE LATE ARRIVING AT 9000 FT. GIVEN OUR GND SPD, I SHOULD NOT HAVE DELAYED OUR DISCRETIONARY DSCNT.
