Narrative:
Departed slc to the north. Climbing through approximately 10000 ft on runway heading with slc TRACON, we were told to maintain a good rate of climb through 12000 ft and to come right to 130 degrees to intercept the slc 094 degree radial outbound. Slc TRACON then radioed that a regional jet was at 3 O'clock position and 10 mi, had us in sight and would maintain visual separation. At 12500 ft we sighted regional jet at 2 O'clock position, 5 NM and 100 ft below us -- right when we received a TA from the TCASII. At 12900 ft, he was at 2 O'clock position, 3 NM with constant bearing, decreasing range -- TCASII progresses from TA to RA. We descended to respond to the RA. Regional jet passed directly overhead with approximately 500 ft of separation. When we landed at dfw, captain spoke to the slc TRACON supervisor on duty to file a near-midair report.

Title: B727 EXECUTES TCASII RA DSCNT TO AVOID DSNDING CARJ UNDER S56 CTL.
Narrative: DEPARTED SLC TO THE N. CLBING THROUGH APPROX 10000 FT ON RWY HEADING WITH SLC TRACON, WE WERE TOLD TO MAINTAIN A GOOD RATE OF CLB THROUGH 12000 FT AND TO COME RIGHT TO 130 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE SLC 094 DEG RADIAL OUTBOUND. AT 12500 FT WE SIGHTED REGIONAL JET AT 2 O'CLOCK POS, 5 NM AND 100 FT BELOW US -- RIGHT WHEN WE RECEIVED A TA FROM THE TCASII. AT 12900 FT, HE WAS AT 2 O'CLOCK POS, 3 NM WITH CONSTANT BEARING, DECREASING RANGE -- TCASII PROGRESSES FROM TA TO RA. WE DSNDED TO RESPOND TO THE RA. REGIONAL JET PASSED DIRECTLY OVERHEAD WITH APPROX 500 FT OF SEPARATION. WHEN WE LANDED AT DFW, CAPT SPOKE TO THE SLC TRACON SUPVR ON DUTY TO FILE A NEAR-MIDAIR RPT.
