Narrative:
Location: runway 17L. After applying takeoff power the flight engineer announced automatic pack trip failed to arm. I reduced power to idle and first officer notified tower of the abort. The aircraft never accelerated beyond taxi speed and I exited the runway at taxiway Y. I then made a PA to the passenger informing them of the reason for the abort and to remain seated. I also checked in with the purser. The brake cooling chart was not consulted due to the low speed and lack of braking required. I then contacted dispatch to notify them of the problem and asked whether they would rather I take the aircraft to the gate or crew placard the system under provisions of MEL X. We agreed to flight crew placard the system inoperative under MEL 71-X and consulted operation manual section X page 29-X and taxi/takeoff section page xx. Dispatch made corrections to runway limited weight and loads gave us new data for takeoff at flaps 5 degrees, maximum power, air conditioning off. We reaccomplished the before takeoff checklist and a PA was made explaining the problem and solution to the passenger. Take off was then made using new performance data and takeoff confign.

Title: A B727 FLC ABORTS THEIR TKOF AT TAXI SPD WHEN THE SO NOTES THE FAILURE OF THE AUTO PACK TRIP TO ARM AFTER PWR APPLICATION AT DFW, TX.
Narrative: LOCATION: RWY 17L. AFTER APPLYING TKOF PWR THE FE ANNOUNCED AUTO PACK TRIP FAILED TO ARM. I REDUCED PWR TO IDLE AND FO NOTIFIED TWR OF THE ABORT. THE ACFT NEVER ACCELERATED BEYOND TAXI SPD AND I EXITED THE RWY AT TXWY Y. I THEN MADE A PA TO THE PAX INFORMING THEM OF THE REASON FOR THE ABORT AND TO REMAIN SEATED. I ALSO CHKED IN WITH THE PURSER. THE BRAKE COOLING CHART WAS NOT CONSULTED DUE TO THE LOW SPD AND LACK OF BRAKING REQUIRED. I THEN CONTACTED DISPATCH TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE PROB AND ASKED WHETHER THEY WOULD RATHER I TAKE THE ACFT TO THE GATE OR CREW PLACARD THE SYS UNDER PROVISIONS OF MEL X. WE AGREED TO FLC PLACARD THE SYS INOP UNDER MEL 71-X AND CONSULTED OP MANUAL SECTION X PAGE 29-X AND TAXI/TKOF SECTION PAGE XX. DISPATCH MADE CORRECTIONS TO RWY LIMITED WT AND LOADS GAVE US NEW DATA FOR TKOF AT FLAPS 5 DEGS, MAX PWR, AIR CONDITIONING OFF. WE REACCOMPLISHED THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST AND A PA WAS MADE EXPLAINING THE PROB AND SOLUTION TO THE PAX. TAKE OFF WAS THEN MADE USING NEW PERFORMANCE DATA AND TKOF CONFIGN.
