Narrative:

VHF #1 reported as inoperative (dead) swapped transceiver with #3 position (ACARS) and ground check was normal. Applied MEL for #3 VHF inoperative. No clear ipc for #3 system, although after use found several statements in maintenance manual not to swap. Error was caused by use of spare parts catalog and ipc references that did not fully include separate units for the #1 and #2 VHF and the #3 VHF (ACARS). Manual revision has been requested.
