Narrative:
Some time after agriculture inspection and before engine start, someone at hnl ramp deposited a small styrofoam chest (8 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches) labeled with 'attention lax ramp manager' by the luggage storage area. Said styrofoam container ice chest was discovered by air crew while en route from hnl direct lax. Neither crew member was asked by hnl personnel for permission to load the ice chest. Chest was sealed in plastic tape. Flight crew opened it to determine nature of contents. Contents discovered to be a container of food stuff on ice. This container was placed on aircraft without knowledge of, or authority/authorized by, the air crew or company. Implications of such unauthorized actions are obvious: bomb, drugs, etc. Crew sent message to company via ACARS to request that security meet aircraft/air crew at taxi/engine shutdown at lax. Security personnel did meet aircraft, confiscated container, and took statement from crew.
