Narrative:
Subsequent captain of aircraft X informed us that an MEL regarding the aircraft trim system may have been incorrectly applied or placarded by maintenance. Upon arriving at the aircraft, we saw that the aircraft had an MEL from the previous flight that was still effective. We complied with all operational considerations -- including not operating the affected system during our flight. However, the MEL may have been inappropriately placarded or applied.
