Narrative:
On a flight from bos to dfw, while in ZNY's airspace, we were given a vector of 260 degrees and direct lrp VOR when able. We were then given a vector of 270 degrees for traffic. Later, we were given a vector of 260 degrees, direct lrp when able. We told center we were receiving lrp and proceeding direct with about a 15 degree left turn. Several mins later, we were given the next sector's frequency and told to expect a heading to hvq from them. We replied that the transmission was garbled and verified the frequency only. We checked in on the new frequency and center later gave us a heading of 280 degrees for traffic. Although it wasn't very apparent to us, evidently, they stopped another flight's climb due to separation. Center then asked us several times what our previous clearance had been. We subsequently were given a phone number to call to discuss this with center. Evidently, during the garbled transmission, there was a clearance given that we didn't hear or misunderstood. In retrospect, we should have questioned the whole transmission, not just the frequency, and center should have made sure we understood the whole transmission.

Title: B727 FLC ARE QUESTIONED BY ZNY CTLR ABOUT PREVIOUSLY ISSUED CLRNC APPARENTLY DUE TO A DEVELOPING POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT.
Narrative: ON A FLT FROM BOS TO DFW, WHILE IN ZNY'S AIRSPACE, WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 260 DEGS AND DIRECT LRP VOR WHEN ABLE. WE WERE THEN GIVEN A VECTOR OF 270 DEGS FOR TFC. LATER, WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 260 DEGS, DIRECT LRP WHEN ABLE. WE TOLD CTR WE WERE RECEIVING LRP AND PROCEEDING DIRECT WITH ABOUT A 15 DEG L TURN. SEVERAL MINS LATER, WE WERE GIVEN THE NEXT SECTOR'S FREQ AND TOLD TO EXPECT A HDG TO HVQ FROM THEM. WE REPLIED THAT THE XMISSION WAS GARBLED AND VERIFIED THE FREQ ONLY. WE CHKED IN ON THE NEW FREQ AND CTR LATER GAVE US A HDG OF 280 DEGS FOR TFC. ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T VERY APPARENT TO US, EVIDENTLY, THEY STOPPED ANOTHER FLT'S CLB DUE TO SEPARATION. CTR THEN ASKED US SEVERAL TIMES WHAT OUR PREVIOUS CLRNC HAD BEEN. WE SUBSEQUENTLY WERE GIVEN A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL TO DISCUSS THIS WITH CTR. EVIDENTLY, DURING THE GARBLED XMISSION, THERE WAS A CLRNC GIVEN THAT WE DIDN'T HEAR OR MISUNDERSTOOD. IN RETROSPECT, WE SHOULD HAVE QUESTIONED THE WHOLE XMISSION, NOT JUST THE FREQ, AND CTR SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE WE UNDERSTOOD THE WHOLE XMISSION.
