Narrative:

We were holding short of runway 23L while operating flight from mex in a B737-300. We were given the instruction by mex tower control to taxi into position for runway 23L. We looked to clear final approach and saw an aircraft at a distance. Following engine spool-up and initial aircraft movement, we took another look and saw the same aircraft aligned with runway 23L. We stopped but we had just crossed the hold short line. We asked the tower as to which runway was the aircraft in question landing. They replied runway 23L and said 'hold position' which we acknowledged and complied. The other aircraft, an A320, seemed to perform a normal approach and landing. We were given subsequent instructions to position and hold. Our takeoff and departure was uneventful.
