During takeoff and initial climb from dfw, left engine egt experienced momentary egt spike, followed by tail compartment temperature high light. Light extinguished with accomplishment of appropriate procedure. Emergency declared as precaution and an uneventful return and normal approach and landing completed. Overweight landing with normal touchdown and nominal sink. Coordination with crash fire rescue equipment crew and escort to gate arrival without incident. Crash fire rescue equipment released and emergency canceled. Coordination with maintenance and dispatch completed. Subsequent change of equipment and departure to destination.
