Narrative:
Approximately 1 min prior to departure on runway 29 at gjt, gjt tower cleared us via runway heading, grand mesa one departure. First officer was flying and had never been to gjt before and was receiving IOE instruction from me. I briefly looked at 10-3B (grand mesa one) SID and saw at bottom instructions for runway 29: climb to 6000 ft, then climbing left turn direct jnc VOR. Instructed first officer to comply with this. On climb out we turned toward VOR at 6000 ft just prior to contacting departure (denver). They asked if we were on runway heading and I replied 'no' we're complying with SID. He gave us a left turn to join airway. Not until then did I notice that the procedure we executed was 'lost communication procedure only.' we should have been flying runway heading (293 degrees). In the future I will have to take more time to review procedures when clearance changes last min.
