Narrative:

Stabilizer trim failure. While cruising at FL290, the captain was flying to bur, 15 mi northwest of ave VOR, the stabilizer out of trim light came on. While getting out the checklist, the captain disconnected the autoplt per the manual (QRH) the aircraft climbed to 29400 ft. ZLA called us about our altitude. I, the first officer, said we're having a problem and were returning to FL290. The flight continued normally to burbank.

Title: B737-300 CREW HAD ALT EXCURSION IN ZLA CLASS A.

Narrative: STABILIZER TRIM FAILURE. WHILE CRUISING AT FL290, THE CAPT WAS FLYING TO BUR, 15 MI NW OF AVE VOR, THE STABILIZER OUT OF TRIM LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE GETTING OUT THE CHKLIST, THE CAPT DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT PER THE MANUAL (QRH) THE ACFT CLBED TO 29400 FT. ZLA CALLED US ABOUT OUR ALT. I, THE FO, SAID WE'RE HAVING A PROB AND WERE RETURNING TO FL290. THE FLT CONTINUED NORMALLY TO BURBANK.
