Narrative:
Immediately after landing on runway 12 at iad, the 2 left tires blew and aircraft settled onto the rims. Aircraft swerved to the left and was corrected back to centerline. A lot of aircraft vibration occurred. Passenger were kept seated as no additional problems were noted after aircraft came to a stop. Tower confirmed no additional problems as did the emergency response crew. Passenger were offloaded onto mobile lounges and xported to the terminal. Passenger were calm through incident. Supplemental information from acn 520503: at touchdown, appeared right wing rising. Realized left side was low. Aircraft started drifting left. Captain corrected to centerline. Vibration started shortly after touchdown and increased during rollout. Supplemental information from acn 520507: tower reports seeing excessive smoke on touchdown. Fire trucks responded and reported no fires but tires had come off rims. Callback conversation with reporter acn 520503 revealed the following information: the first officer, who was the PNF, reports no feedback from maintenance as to the cause of the problem. However, both tires, as reported by passenger blew immediately at touchdown. There was suspicion that there may have been antiskid problems. There was no crosswind or side-slip of the aircraft on touchdown.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727 CREW EXPERIENCES 2 BLOWN TIRES ON LNDG.
Narrative: IMMEDIATELY AFTER LNDG ON RWY 12 AT IAD, THE 2 L TIRES BLEW AND ACFT SETTLED ONTO THE RIMS. ACFT SWERVED TO THE L AND WAS CORRECTED BACK TO CTRLINE. A LOT OF ACFT VIBRATION OCCURRED. PAX WERE KEPT SEATED AS NO ADDITIONAL PROBS WERE NOTED AFTER ACFT CAME TO A STOP. TWR CONFIRMED NO ADDITIONAL PROBS AS DID THE EMER RESPONSE CREW. PAX WERE OFFLOADED ONTO MOBILE LOUNGES AND XPORTED TO THE TERMINAL. PAX WERE CALM THROUGH INCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 520503: AT TOUCHDOWN, APPEARED R WING RISING. REALIZED L SIDE WAS LOW. ACFT STARTED DRIFTING L. CAPT CORRECTED TO CTRLINE. VIBRATION STARTED SHORTLY AFTER TOUCHDOWN AND INCREASED DURING ROLLOUT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 520507: TWR RPTS SEEING EXCESSIVE SMOKE ON TOUCHDOWN. FIRE TRUCKS RESPONDED AND RPTED NO FIRES BUT TIRES HAD COME OFF RIMS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 520503 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE FO, WHO WAS THE PNF, RPTS NO FEEDBACK FROM MAINT AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE PROB. HOWEVER, BOTH TIRES, AS RPTED BY PAX BLEW IMMEDIATELY AT TOUCHDOWN. THERE WAS SUSPICION THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN ANTISKID PROBS. THERE WAS NO XWIND OR SIDE-SLIP OF THE ACFT ON TOUCHDOWN.
