Narrative:
During a climb to the local training area between point fermin and point vincente, as I was instructing a student, he pointed to his right. I turned quickly and saw a cessna 152 converging at us on an angle of 20 degrees, same direction. I took evasive action by increasing my climb rate, while the cessna pilot dove away. At the time, I was still speaking to long beach tower, although they did not call the traffic. I feel that the establishment of a civilian operations area or alert area in this airspace, which is heavily used for training, would help prevent another such incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC. ROBINSON HELI R22 INSTRUCTOR, WITH STUDENT, TURNED AND CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A CESSNA 152 CLOSING ON HIS FLT PATH. THE C152 WAS OBSERVED DIVING AWAY FROM THE R22.
Narrative: DURING A CLB TO THE LCL TRAINING AREA BTWN POINT FERMIN AND POINT VINCENTE, AS I WAS INSTRUCTING A STUDENT, HE POINTED TO HIS R. I TURNED QUICKLY AND SAW A CESSNA 152 CONVERGING AT US ON AN ANGLE OF 20 DEGS, SAME DIRECTION. I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION BY INCREASING MY CLB RATE, WHILE THE CESSNA PLT DOVE AWAY. AT THE TIME, I WAS STILL SPEAKING TO LONG BEACH TWR, ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT CALL THE TFC. I FEEL THAT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CIVILIAN OPS AREA OR ALERT AREA IN THIS AIRSPACE, WHICH IS HEAVILY USED FOR TRAINING, WOULD HELP PREVENT ANOTHER SUCH INCIDENT.
