Narrative:
Cleared by dorval ground (yul) to 'taxi to runway 28 via taxiway a, call tower 119.9 at runway.' read back 'taxi to runway 28 via taxiway a, tower 119.9.' after some minor confusion regarding the location of taxiway a, we proceeded to runway. Captain apparently thought we were cleared 'position and hold' and taxied approximately 150 ft past hold short line. I did not notice that we went past hold short line because: I was busy with pre-takeoff checks (including extra 'first flight of day' checks). Hold short line is further back than normal, due to oblique angle between taxiway a and 10/20. Therefore we hadn't yet passed what would normally be a standard hold short distance. About the time I switched to tower, I noticed that I couldn't see a hold short line in front of us. While querying the captain, tower cleared us for takeoff on runway 28. No conflict occurred between us and any other aircraft. On climb out ATC asked us to call dorval ground for a phone number for ATC.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CL65 CAPT OVERSHOT RWY HOLD LINE DURING TAXI OUT. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT, BUT TWR REQUESTED CREW TO CALL AFTER LNDG AT DEST.
Narrative: CLRED BY DORVAL GND (YUL) TO 'TAXI TO RWY 28 VIA TXWY A, CALL TWR 119.9 AT RWY.' READ BACK 'TAXI TO RWY 28 VIA TXWY A, TWR 119.9.' AFTER SOME MINOR CONFUSION REGARDING THE LOCATION OF TXWY A, WE PROCEEDED TO RWY. CAPT APPARENTLY THOUGHT WE WERE CLRED 'POS AND HOLD' AND TAXIED APPROX 150 FT PAST HOLD SHORT LINE. I DID NOT NOTICE THAT WE WENT PAST HOLD SHORT LINE BECAUSE: I WAS BUSY WITH PRE-TKOF CHKS (INCLUDING EXTRA 'FIRST FLT OF DAY' CHKS). HOLD SHORT LINE IS FURTHER BACK THAN NORMAL, DUE TO OBLIQUE ANGLE BTWN TXWY A AND 10/20. THEREFORE WE HADN'T YET PASSED WHAT WOULD NORMALLY BE A STANDARD HOLD SHORT DISTANCE. ABOUT THE TIME I SWITCHED TO TWR, I NOTICED THAT I COULDN'T SEE A HOLD SHORT LINE IN FRONT OF US. WHILE QUERYING THE CAPT, TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 28. NO CONFLICT OCCURRED BTWN US AND ANY OTHER ACFT. ON CLBOUT ATC ASKED US TO CALL DORVAL GND FOR A PHONE NUMBER FOR ATC.
