Narrative:
I was scheduled to fly 7 hours and 50 mins. After 4 legs I had flown 6 hours and 45 mins I realized our duty would have taken us over 15 hours. Our contract requires us to fly no more than 15 hours. I immediately informed our scheduling department and they rescheduled me to a shorter leg to finish my day (ord-sgf versus ord-cae). This kept us within the 15 hour duty limit but it had us scheduled for more than 8 hours between rest periods. I accepted the assignment thinking we were originally scheduled for less than 8 hours and due to WX that day I could go over 8 hours. Union legal has since informed me this is not legal since just before my last leg of the day, I had subsequently been scheduled (or rescheduled) for more than 8 hours between rest periods. Personally, I think this regulation is fairly easy to violate. The way flight time and rest regulations are written, they can be very confusing. Fellow pilots, company management and even different FAA auths at different FSDO's, interpret the regulations differently.

Title: CL65 CAPT WAS DELIBERATELY SCHEDULED TO EXCEED 8 HRS IN 24 HRS BY THE ACR CREW SCHEDULING DEPT.
Narrative: I WAS SCHEDULED TO FLY 7 HRS AND 50 MINS. AFTER 4 LEGS I HAD FLOWN 6 HRS AND 45 MINS I REALIZED OUR DUTY WOULD HAVE TAKEN US OVER 15 HRS. OUR CONTRACT REQUIRES US TO FLY NO MORE THAN 15 HRS. I IMMEDIATELY INFORMED OUR SCHEDULING DEPT AND THEY RESCHEDULED ME TO A SHORTER LEG TO FINISH MY DAY (ORD-SGF VERSUS ORD-CAE). THIS KEPT US WITHIN THE 15 HR DUTY LIMIT BUT IT HAD US SCHEDULED FOR MORE THAN 8 HRS BTWN REST PERIODS. I ACCEPTED THE ASSIGNMENT THINKING WE WERE ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR LESS THAN 8 HRS AND DUE TO WX THAT DAY I COULD GO OVER 8 HRS. UNION LEGAL HAS SINCE INFORMED ME THIS IS NOT LEGAL SINCE JUST BEFORE MY LAST LEG OF THE DAY, I HAD SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN SCHEDULED (OR RESCHEDULED) FOR MORE THAN 8 HRS BTWN REST PERIODS. PERSONALLY, I THINK THIS REG IS FAIRLY EASY TO VIOLATE. THE WAY FLT TIME AND REST REGS ARE WRITTEN, THEY CAN BE VERY CONFUSING. FELLOW PLTS, COMPANY MGMNT AND EVEN DIFFERENT FAA AUTHS AT DIFFERENT FSDO'S, INTERPRET THE REGS DIFFERENTLY.
