Narrative:
Second leg from dtw. Blocked out XA52Z. Taxi clearance was: taxi to runway 21L via taxiway H2, taxiway V, hold short of runway 21R. I got this part right. After a short hold, clearance was to expedite across runway 21C via taxiway V, taxiway west, hold short of runway 21L. During the expedite, I missed the turn on taxiway west, stayed straight on taxiway V and held short of runway 21L. After several aircraft landed, ground asked if we had room to do a 180 degree turn without crossing the hold short line for runway 21L. I responded we could, and he said 'do a 180 degree turn back to taxiway west and hold short of runway 21L.' as I turned the aircraft right 180 degrees, my first officer said 'it's not going to work,' and I said 'we have plenty of room to keep the nose gear on the pavement.' I then saw the little lights sticking up on those 18 inch rubber poles. I don't think we hit any of them. If we missed them, it was pure luck. My first officer and I discussed the chain of events that led up to this and it will be avoided in the future. I am totally to blame and not my first officer.

Title: AN ACR PIC ATTEMPTS A 180 DEG TURN ON THE TXWY, POSSIBLY STRIKING SOME TXWY LIGHTING DURING THE TXWY EXCURSION AT DTW, MI.
Narrative: SECOND LEG FROM DTW. BLOCKED OUT XA52Z. TAXI CLRNC WAS: TAXI TO RWY 21L VIA TXWY H2, TXWY V, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 21R. I GOT THIS PART RIGHT. AFTER A SHORT HOLD, CLRNC WAS TO EXPEDITE ACROSS RWY 21C VIA TXWY V, TXWY W, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 21L. DURING THE EXPEDITE, I MISSED THE TURN ON TXWY W, STAYED STRAIGHT ON TXWY V AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 21L. AFTER SEVERAL ACFT LANDED, GND ASKED IF WE HAD ROOM TO DO A 180 DEG TURN WITHOUT XING THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 21L. I RESPONDED WE COULD, AND HE SAID 'DO A 180 DEG TURN BACK TO TXWY W AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 21L.' AS I TURNED THE ACFT R 180 DEGS, MY FO SAID 'IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK,' AND I SAID 'WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO KEEP THE NOSE GEAR ON THE PAVEMENT.' I THEN SAW THE LITTLE LIGHTS STICKING UP ON THOSE 18 INCH RUBBER POLES. I DON'T THINK WE HIT ANY OF THEM. IF WE MISSED THEM, IT WAS PURE LUCK. MY FO AND I DISCUSSED THE CHAIN OF EVENTS THAT LED UP TO THIS AND IT WILL BE AVOIDED IN THE FUTURE. I AM TOTALLY TO BLAME AND NOT MY FO.
