Narrative:

Leveling FL230 and cabin altitude was 7000 ft and climbing. Told ZTL we needed descent to 11,000 ft now. Center asked if it was emergency. We said no, but urgent. He advised we had traffic below so we could turn or wait. We told him we would take the turn as we needed the descent as soon as possible. He turned us 15 degrees left, cleared us to 11000 ft and advised us of traffic. He turned the other aircraft 15 degrees left and advised us both we were ok, but would be less than required separation. Other aircraft had us visually. I felt the controller did an excellent job given the circumstances and cannot think of anything else that he or we could have done better.
