Narrative:
Climbing out of dfw for xna, center controller asked for altitude. Replied 'leaving 21800 ft for FL230.' was told that assigned altitude was FL210, but maintain FL230. Altitude alerter was set at FL230. I believe assigned altitude was FL230. We were deviating around thunderstorms at the time and it is possible that the clearance was misheard, misread, or misset. There did not appear to be any conflict with other traffic.
