Air Traffic Incident | Operational Error |
Narrative:
We were flying at 8000 ft and being vectored by stl approach. We were exactly where we were supposed to be. A TA appeared on the TCASII. It was climbing fast. Captain initiated a climb due to the RA. I asked ATC about traffic. We both began to look. We saw an F15 bust out of the clouds, almost vertical. It passed by our 1 O'clock position within 600 ft. The F15 climbed right through our altitude and kept on going. ATC then responded to my traffic query by stating traffic was well above and behind us. I told them we were 500 ft high for the RA but returning to 8000 ft. Rest of the flight was uneventful.

I ASKED ATC ABOUT TFC. WE BOTH BEGAN TO LOOK. WE SAW AN F15 BUST OUT OF THE CLOUDS, ALMOST VERT. IT PASSED BY OUR 1 O'CLOCK POS WITHIN 600 FT. THE F15 CLBED RIGHT THROUGH OUR ALT AND KEPT ON GOING.
