Narrative:
We were cleared for ILS runway 25L at lax. TA was issued to us that aircraft Y (EMB120) was at our 9 O'clock position, would be vectored behind us for the visual to runway 25R. Visual was never established, but aircraft Y called us in sight. Shortly after that, we received an RA (2000 ft AGL) with the red DOT on top of our aircraft same altitude. TCASII commanded 1500 FPM down. Visual contact was not established with EMB120 until 1000 ft AGL with the EMB120 abeam right wing. At 1000 ft, we notified tower of RA. Then the EMB120 slowed up to increase separation. Supplemental information from acn 522430: descended and maintained 1/2 - 3/4 DOT GS low to keep aircraft vertical separation 200 ft. Did not see him visually until 1000 ft AGL. Filed near midair collision with tower.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B762 CREW, AFTER BEING ISSUED A TA FROM SCT, RECEIVED A 'DSND' RA FROM TCASII.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR ILS RWY 25L AT LAX. TA WAS ISSUED TO US THAT ACFT Y (EMB120) WAS AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK POS, WOULD BE VECTORED BEHIND US FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 25R. VISUAL WAS NEVER ESTABLISHED, BUT ACFT Y CALLED US IN SIGHT. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, WE RECEIVED AN RA (2000 FT AGL) WITH THE RED DOT ON TOP OF OUR ACFT SAME ALT. TCASII COMMANDED 1500 FPM DOWN. VISUAL CONTACT WAS NOT ESTABLISHED WITH EMB120 UNTIL 1000 FT AGL WITH THE EMB120 ABEAM R WING. AT 1000 FT, WE NOTIFIED TWR OF RA. THEN THE EMB120 SLOWED UP TO INCREASE SEPARATION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 522430: DSNDED AND MAINTAINED 1/2 - 3/4 DOT GS LOW TO KEEP ACFT VERT SEPARATION 200 FT. DID NOT SEE HIM VISUALLY UNTIL 1000 FT AGL. FILED NMAC WITH TWR.
