Narrative:

Everything seemed normal boarding, etc. Passenger boarded, agent closed the door, we did the safety demonstration, compliance checks, and sat down in our jump seat. Captain said flight attendant 'prepare for takeoff.' we started down the runway, then suddenly the brakes slammed on and at that point I knew we were aborting takeoff. I let the #3 flight attendant know since she was new. Lots of thoughts were in my head, main one being I thought we were going to hit another aircraft. After coming to a complete stop I waited 30 seconds as instructed by the captain (in briefing), before making contact with the pilots. Captain then came on the PA and made an announcement saying that everything was ok, there was a fuel flow indicator problem for the left engine. We then taxied back to the gate while mechanics met our flight. The #2 brake had overheated due to the event and we waited for that to cool down. After about 40 mins, we took the same aircraft and departed for dtw as originally planned. We waited 1 hour to take off the second time due to thunderstorms in the area.
