Narrative:
Was doing touch and goes at home airport base on runway 29. Flying downwind directly into the sun. Other aircraft was flying from the north to land (helicopter). The other aircraft was asked by tower to report me in sight. The pilot reported me in sight and was cleared to land. He was told to maintain visual contact. He flew at the same altitude and I dived 100 ft to make sure we had clearance! I then told the tower that the helicopter must not have had me in sight. The helicopter pilot then admitted he picked up the wrong aircraft (Z)! Contributing factor: sun was setting in my eyes making it difficult to scan for other aircraft.
