Narrative:
Departed ewr from runway 22L. Captain flying non GPS equipped aircraft on autoplt. After contacting departure, I was told to go direct to sbj and climb to 11000 ft. Next contact was to fly the sbj 302 degree radial to parke, J6, flight plan. I tuned sbj and captured the 302 degree radial outbound. First officer tuned bwz 250 degree radial to get a crossing fix on parke since the sbj does not have a DME fix and the turn would require a 55 degree change in course to intercept J6 after passing parke. The next clearance was to turn direct lrp, and was given prior to parke, and prior to any movement of the first officer's CDI for J6. I started turn using 15 degrees of bank and then tuned lrp. During the turn I was accelerating to 300 KTS. I saw that I was going to roll out left of the J6 course. Just prior to going direct, the ATC controller asked if we were having a problem with the turn. First officer stated no and we were told to continue turn to a 220 degree heading. Prior to rolling out on that heading, approximately 25 degrees past the direct to lrp, the controller cleared us back to 245 degrees and direct to lrp. I then think that he gave us a 250 degree heading, direct lrp. After the controller's question we saw another aircraft on the TCASII, in close proximity to our left front about 500 ft below. We did not get a TCASII alert. Although it was not significant to our departure, my CDI and VOR would drift up to 10 mi left and right off course on all stations through the flight. The first officer's stayed steady. I received numerous VOR course alerts at up to 100 mi from stations. This was discovered after getting on and trying to stay on course after lrp. I do not know where the pilot deviation occurred since I believe that I followed all ATC radio contacts made and acknowledged by the first officer. Please contact me if you need any more information.

Title: AN ACR PLT DETAILS A DEP FROM EWR IN AN EFFORT TO EXPLAIN AN APPARENT REQUEST FOR INFO ON AN ATC DEV RPT INVOLVING THEIR FLT.
Narrative: DEPARTED EWR FROM RWY 22L. CAPT FLYING NON GPS EQUIPPED ACFT ON AUTOPLT. AFTER CONTACTING DEP, I WAS TOLD TO GO DIRECT TO SBJ AND CLB TO 11000 FT. NEXT CONTACT WAS TO FLY THE SBJ 302 DEG RADIAL TO PARKE, J6, FLT PLAN. I TUNED SBJ AND CAPTURED THE 302 DEG RADIAL OUTBOUND. I THEN THINK THAT HE GAVE US A 250 DEG HDG, DIRECT LRP. AFTER THE CTLR'S QUESTION WE SAW ANOTHER ACFT ON THE TCASII, IN CLOSE PROX TO OUR L FRONT ABOUT 500 FT BELOW. WE DID NOT GET A TCASII ALERT. ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT SIGNIFICANT TO OUR DEP, MY CDI AND VOR WOULD DRIFT UP TO 10 MI L AND R OFF COURSE ON ALL STATIONS THROUGH THE FLT. THE FO'S STAYED STEADY. I RECEIVED NUMEROUS VOR COURSE ALERTS AT UP TO 100 MI FROM STATIONS. THIS WAS DISCOVERED AFTER GETTING ON AND TRYING TO STAY ON COURSE AFTER LRP. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE THE PLTDEV OCCURRED SINCE I BELIEVE THAT I FOLLOWED ALL ATC RADIO CONTACTS MADE AND ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE FO. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED ANY MORE INFO.
