Narrative:

I was flying a maule and landing at fkl. The WX was VFR, AWOS reported winds of 160 degrees at 10 KTS. Runway 20 was in use. Upon touchdown in a three point attitude, the aircraft was in control. When the airspeed was approximately 15 KTS, my passenger said ground hog. I then looked to my right and saw a ground hog near the centerline moving towards us. I applied full left brake in hope to avoiding the ground hog. This induced a ground loop which resulted in the left wing tip being dragged into the ground. No one was hurt and the aircraft was shutdown. I have two names of people who witnessed the ground hogs on the runway. I believe that the induced ground loop was better than striking a ground hog with the propeller. This may of resulted in the aircraft flipping over. I believe I exercised the right judgment in this situation.

Title: A MAULE ROCKET CFI INCURS A GND LOOP DURING HIS LNDG ROLL WHEN AVOIDING A GND HOG ON THE RWY AT FKL, PA.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING A MAULE AND LANDING AT FKL. THE WX WAS VFR, AWOS REPORTED WINDS OF 160 DEGS AT 10 KTS. RWY 20 WAS IN USE. UPON TOUCHDOWN IN A THREE POINT ATTITUDE, THE ACFT WAS IN CTL. WHEN THE AIRSPEED WAS APPROX 15 KTS, MY PAX SAID GND HOG. I THEN LOOKED TO MY RIGHT AND SAW A GND HOG NEAR THE CENTERLINE MOVING TOWARDS US. I APPLIED FULL LEFT BRAKE IN HOPE TO AVOIDING THE GND HOG. THIS INDUCED A GND LOOP WHICH RESULTED IN THE LEFT WING TIP BEING DRAGGED INTO THE GND. NO ONE WAS HURT AND THE ACFT WAS SHUTDOWN. I HAVE TWO NAMES OF PEOPLE WHO WITNESSED THE GND HOGS ON THE RWY. I BELIEVE THAT THE INDUCED GND LOOP WAS BETTER THAN STRIKING A GND HOG WITH THE PROP. THIS MAY OF RESULTED IN THE ACFT FLIPPING OVER. I BELIEVE I EXERCISED THE RIGHT JUDGMENT IN THIS SIT.
