Narrative:
On sep/sun/01 I was performing a layover check on a B727 air carrier aircraft X. I performed the engine part of the layover oiling #1, #2, and #3 engine. The next day I heard that the #2 engine lost oil on its way to ZZZ, the aircraft was deferred to YYY where the cause was determined to be the #2 engine oil cap. When taking off the #2 engine oil cap I noticed there was no chain on it. Also there was oil in the cowling which I had cleaned up approximately a quart, I wasn't concerned about the oil in the cowling because the #2 engine took an average amt of oil to top off. I then put the oil cap on, turned the handle then pushed the handle down I doubled checked that the handle was down all the way and closed the access door. I then looked at the CSD gauge on the engine to make sure it read full which it did. Then moved on to the #3 engine.
