Narrative:
First leg on an IOE for a new captain to the B757 fleet. The check pilot acting as first officer received taxi clearance out of gate. Did not receive any other instructions or TA's and observed no other aircraft on frequency and very little to no activity on the ramp. Upon completion of the initial turn out and established on a 45 degree intercept to taxiway, the check pilot first officer saw a turboprop appear at his 2 O'clock position on taxiway turning towards another taxiway to avoid us. The first officer said 'hold it' and the captain hit the brakes. Because of the light gross weight, the airplane stopped immediately. Questioned ramp controller who said something like 'er, ahhh, I don't know, stand by.' switched to ground controller, continued taxi, checked with flight attendants for injuries who said ok at this time. Later at cruise, the #1 flight attendant advised one flight attendant had injured her arm, was not working, and would call in sick upon arrival at destination. Advised dispatch and flight manager re-injured flight attendant.
