Narrative:
Told by ZLA to maintain best forward speed. Later given clearance to cross jokur at FL240. FMC properly programmed and I began a planned mach .76/320 FPM descent about 5 mi before FMC directed top of descent. During descent I gave the destination WX PA and also had a flight attendant enter cockpit. I then noticed I was high on profile primarily because I was slow at about 280 KTS. I then lowered the nose to accelerate and increase rate of descent. I thought I was going to make the restr, but the autoplt captured the altitude about 2000 ft high due to a high rate of descent and as the autoplt shallowed out the descent we were at 600 ft high at jokur. The captain also said we had an increasing tailwind as we descended, which added to the problem. I did not pay enough attention to the progress of my descent because I started down early and assumed there wouldn't be any problems. I diverted my attention accomplishing some other tasks and a lack of understanding how the autoplt captures altitudes also contributed.

Title: XING RESTR A JOKUR INTXN NOT MET DUE TO PLANNING, WIND FACTORS, DISTR AND UNFAMILIARITY WITH AUTOFLT SYS LEVELOFF CHARACTERISTICS.
Narrative: TOLD BY ZLA TO MAINTAIN BEST FORWARD SPD. LATER GIVEN CLRNC TO CROSS JOKUR AT FL240. FMC PROPERLY PROGRAMMED AND I BEGAN A PLANNED MACH .76/320 FPM DSCNT ABOUT 5 MI BEFORE FMC DIRECTED TOP OF DSCNT. DURING DSCNT I GAVE THE DEST WX PA AND ALSO HAD A FLT ATTENDANT ENTER COCKPIT. I THEN NOTICED I WAS HIGH ON PROFILE PRIMARILY BECAUSE I WAS SLOW AT ABOUT 280 KTS. I THEN LOWERED THE NOSE TO ACCELERATE AND INCREASE RATE OF DSCNT. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO MAKE THE RESTR, BUT THE AUTOPLT CAPTURED THE ALT ABOUT 2000 FT HIGH DUE TO A HIGH RATE OF DSCNT AND AS THE AUTOPLT SHALLOWED OUT THE DSCNT WE WERE AT 600 FT HIGH AT JOKUR. THE CAPT ALSO SAID WE HAD AN INCREASING TAILWIND AS WE DSNDED, WHICH ADDED TO THE PROB. I DID NOT PAY ENOUGH ATTN TO THE PROGRESS OF MY DSCNT BECAUSE I STARTED DOWN EARLY AND ASSUMED THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY PROBS. I DIVERTED MY ATTN ACCOMPLISHING SOME OTHER TASKS AND A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING HOW THE AUTOPLT CAPTURES ALTS ALSO CONTRIBUTED.
