Narrative:

It was first flight after FAA allowed VFR flight training in enhanced class B airspace. I was flying with a CFI for the purpose of an ipc and to meet a check ride requirement for the club that owned the aircraft. I was flying under the hood for some time when ATC announced that the aircraft had passed from within enhanced class B airspace through the lateral boundary to outside of that airspace. The controller noted that aircraft on VFR training flts within the airspace could not leave the airspace without an IFR clearance. There was no intent to leave class B, but I could not see where we were at the time. I thought the instructor understood the new limitation, but he allowed the aircraft to inadvertently stray out. A factor was the handheld GPS being used to monitor the airspace boundaries lost its signal and still showed us within the enhanced class B. I could not see the screen (it was on the right yoke) and the instructor was unfamiliar with my GPS. I also note that an aviation web site says that such flts can depart and enter enhanced class B airspace without an IFR clearance. We received an IFR clearance to return into the airspace and finished the flight training.

Title: CESSNA 182 INSTRUMENT PLT CURRENCY PRACTICE WENT OUTSIDE ENHANCED CLASS B AIRSPACE WITHOUT AN IFR CLRNC DUE TO THE INSTRUCTOR NOT MAINTAINING SITUATIONAL AWARENESS.

Narrative: IT WAS FIRST FLT AFTER FAA ALLOWED VFR FLT TRAINING IN ENHANCED CLASS B AIRSPACE. I WAS FLYING WITH A CFI FOR THE PURPOSE OF AN IPC AND TO MEET A CHECK RIDE REQUIREMENT FOR THE CLUB THAT OWNED THE ACFT. I WAS FLYING UNDER THE HOOD FOR SOME TIME WHEN ATC ANNOUNCED THAT THE ACFT HAD PASSED FROM WITHIN ENHANCED CLASS B AIRSPACE THROUGH THE LATERAL BOUNDARY TO OUTSIDE OF THAT AIRSPACE. THE CTLR NOTED THAT ACFT ON VFR TRAINING FLTS WITHIN THE AIRSPACE COULD NOT LEAVE THE AIRSPACE WITHOUT AN IFR CLRNC. THERE WAS NO INTENT TO LEAVE CLASS B, BUT I COULD NOT SEE WHERE WE WERE AT THE TIME. I THOUGHT THE INSTRUCTOR UNDERSTOOD THE NEW LIMITATION, BUT HE ALLOWED THE ACFT TO INADVERTENTLY STRAY OUT. I ALSO NOTE THAT AN AVIATION WEB SITE SAYS THAT SUCH FLTS CAN DEPART AND ENTER ENHANCED CLASS B AIRSPACE WITHOUT AN IFR CLRNC. WE RECEIVED AN IFR CLRNC TO RETURN INTO THE AIRSPACE AND FINISHED THE FLT TRAINING.
