Narrative:
Normal taxi to 05L at mexico city. Received takeoff clearance form tower. Competed takeoff checklist. First officer at controls for takeoff. While accelerating, the so saw a foreign air carrier B777 entering runway 05L, from the left and called out 'airplane.' captain, myself, applied maximum braking and reverse thrust. Upon realizing impact was imminent, I advised crew and simultaneously steered the aircraft off the runway to the right in order to avoid collision. After coming to a stop, completed emergency evacuation checklist and exited the aircraft via ladder supplied by emergency personnel. Remained in vicinity of aircraft until appropriate authorities, including our maintenance people arrived to service aircraft. The aircraft came to rest between runway 05L and runway 05R just north of B6 taxiway. This is the taxiway the B777 entered the runway from. There were no injuries on either aircraft. Our aircraft settled in the mud up to the engine pods. Upon meeting the B777 crew, they expressed deep thanks for averting catastrophe and took responsibility for the runway incursion. Suggest 'extreme' caution taxiing in mexico city especially at night.
