Narrative:
Arriving ewr area holding penns 7000 ft while ewr changed runway 22L to runway 4R. Cleared sweet intersection, gave 140 degree heading, 6000 ft. Asked which runway we wanted -- runway 4R or runway 29. Said runway 4R. Later given wind change to runway 29 and asked if we could do runway 22. We said yes. He cleared us direct chumr desc 3000 ft. We were slowed, desc while putting in box. Approach asked 'where are you going?' we said 'direct chumr intersection.' he said 'it's to the right about 4 mi about where irlah intersection is.' at the same time he gave us airbus traffic on approach runway 4R. I said 'we have the airbus and the airport' and asked for visual approach, which was given. Airbus more than 1000 ft below and ahead of us. Turned over to tower and landed.
