Narrative:
Approximately 20 mi southeast ZZZ airport; received call from flight attendants that they smelled smoke/fumes. I told them on deck in 4 mins and promptly declared emergency with ZZZ approach controller. Almost immediately thereafter; we smelled same in cockpit and donned our masks. Uneventful landing ZZZ. Crash fire rescue equipment checked aircraft out immediately after landing -- both outside and in. They then followed us to gate to check cargo bays for any residual.
